"My name's Chavez, I'm 15. I like to fight, smoke weed, and I'm a thief." ---Chavez introducing himself, Season 5 Episode 8.

Chavez was a 15-year-old boy who took the tour of the Dougherty county jail for fighting, smoking weed, and stealing.

Before the tour[]

Prior to the jail tour, Chavez enjoyed bullying people for fun at school, fighting, smoking weed, drinking, and stealing something that doesn't belonged to him. He lived with his mother and stepfather and sisters, whom he also abused regularly like a dirt. As was the case with most of the troubled teens, his mother looked extremely young (early 30's, 35 at the most), which is indicative that Chavez may be the result of a teen pregnancy. In addition, Chavez's biological father was not in his life- another trait that many troubled teens shared.

During the tour[]

Chavez at first did not take the tour seriously and thought that he could use it as an oppurtunity to bully and intimidate the deputies and inmates. However, the deputies immediately were not pleased with Chavez smirking and reprimanded him.

When visiting the actual inmates, Chavez again was smirking and not taking them seriously, causing the inmates to become even more angrier with him. Chavez then says that his dad was "a friend of y'all" to which the inmates responded by saying "I'm your dad." The officer, Terron Hayes, shuts the door and Chavez starts complaining that they were disrespecting his dad. Hayes retorts that if Chavez actually respected his father, he wouldn't be living his life the way he is, and that Chavez is nowhere near as tough as he thinks he is. Hayes tells Chavez that that the inmates will "skin his butt alive in there" if he ends up in jail.

After the tour[]

Officer Hayes gave Chavez a job in which Chavez was only supposed to do for one day. However, Chavez stayed at the job for over two months. The tour clearly helped him get his life back on track and hopefully he has a bright future.
