East Jersey State Prison (EJSP), originally "Rahway State Prison", was established in 1896 as the first reformatory in New Jersey.[1] It is a maximum-security institution operated by the New Jersey Department of Corrections.

The prison served as the location for Scared Straight!, Scared Straight! 20 Years Later, and Scared Straight '99.

Lifers' Program

The Rahway State Prison Lifers Group was the group that would use Scared Straight methods on teenagers in an attempt to prevent them from being incarcerated. The program was called the Lifers' Program.
